Speaker, J&K, Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today said that Guru Gobind Singh Ji embodies the spirit of sacrifice and goodwill for mankind and people should try to inculcate his inspirational teachings that are still relevant in today’s world.The Speaker was speaking on the occasion of 350th birth anniversary of the Guru, celebrated here today at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Chand Nagar (Gumat).Mr. Kavinder Gupta said that Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a poet, philosopher, warrior and spiritual master whose teachings of universal brotherhood, equality and the spirit of self sacrifice for others still remain relevant in today’s world and by incorporating them in our lives, anyone one among us, at any given point in our lives can benefit from them.

The Speaker informed the gathering that an initial contribution of Rs 50 lakh is being made by MLCs and MPs from their Community Development Fund (CDF) to establish Guru Gobind Singh Chair in Punjabi Department of Jammu University. He further announced a contribution of Rs 10 Lakh from his CDF for up-gradation of the Guru Nanak Missionary Hospital located at Nanak Nagar.Responding to the demand of the Sikh community for declaring Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk, said that the project has been passed and funds of Rs 10 lakh have been allocated for the same. He assured the community that the project will be expedited and work for the same will begin in the coming months.The Speaker was accompanied by MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma along with many prominent citizens.Earlier, the Speaker also attended the Gurpurab celebrations at Trikuta Nagar Gurdwara, where he wished the community on the occasion.The Gurpurab was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor across the State by the Sikh community members and others. Thousands of devotees thronged the Gurdwara since morning and paid their obeisance there.
