A shutdown amid protests and clashes was observed in Rohmoo area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s visit.According to eyewitnesses, the shutdown was spontaneously observed in Rohmoo – which during the recent uprising saw violent anti-India clashes and protests – and local youth pelted stones on government forces deployed in advance.Reports informed GNS that the Chief Minister was scheduled to lay foundation of a bridge over Romshi nallah that was previously washed away during September 2014 floods. However, according to eyewitnesses, youth had blocked road leading to the bridge site.Amid from raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the songs eulogizing militants were blazing from local mosques, a local said. However despite protests, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone “but in presence of officials amid tight security”, the local who was witnesses to the events said.A senior police officer denied that people staged any protest against the CM’s visit. Asked about the stone-pelting in the area, he said: “some youths targeted vehicles of DySP Headquarters and SHO but it has nothing to with the CM’s visit.”Previously in Rohmoo, five youth including three teen age girls were hit by pellet in their eyes and three youth have been slapped with PSA. A report said here that Chief Minister was scheduled to land from a chopper for which a helipad was constructed from last three days. Meanwhile the Chief Minister came by road and the money and manpower used to build the helipad got wasted, the report added. (GNS)
