National award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran's critically-acclaimed Tamil drama "Visaaranai" may have been winnowed out of the Oscar race. When filmmaker Werner Herzog watched and appreciated 'Visaaranai', it really felt special, as if it was the most memorable moment of the whole campaign," Vetrimaaran told IANS.Produced by Dhanush, the film which is based on the novel "Lock Up", is inspired from true incidents of police brutality and abuse of power.Vetrimaaran credits actor Dhanush for everything."If not for Dhanush, we wouldn't have come this far. I must thank everybody at Wunderbar Films (Dhanush's production) for their support right from the beginning. I also need to thank Indian audiences for standing by me throughout this journey," he said.Vetrimaaran is currently working with Dhanush on Tamil gangster drama "Vada Chennai", a trilogy about 30 years in the life of a gangster from North Chennai.
