Gunmen loot at least Rs 10 lakh from bank in Pulwama

Unsuccessful bid made to loot cash from Budgam and Rajbagh

Masked armed men yet again on Thursday looted cash from the branch of a Jammu Kashmir Bank in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.A police official said that four gunmen arrived in two vehicles and looted eight to ten lakh rupees after forcing their entry into a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Arihal.    “The gunmen who were carrying AK-47 rifles barged into the bank, fired two to three shots in air, broke computers and looted around ten lakh rupees,” he said.Shortly after the incident, government forces cordoned off adjacent villages of Arihal and started search operation, however, no arrests were made.

A Bank official confirmed that gunmen looted at least Rs 10 lakh from the branch. Earlier, unidentified men made an unsuccessful bid to loot the branch of Jammu Kashmir Bank in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday night. Station House Officer Police Station Khag, Muhammad Aslam told CNS that unidentified persons late Wednesday night tried to rob a JK bank branch in Poshkar village of Khag town. They had broken the window of the bank but were unable to barge inside because of iron grills,” he said.“An FIR vide number 75/2016 under 457, 380, 511 has been registered and the investigation has been taken up in this regard,” added the officer.Meanwhile, masked men tried to loot an Auto Teller Machine (ATM) in Rajabh area of Srinagar city on Wednesday night. A police official said that some masked men entered into the ATM belonging to State Bank of India and tried to break the machine. However, after unsuccessful attempt, they fled from the spot. “A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up,” he said. (CNS)
