DDC Kathua reviews functioning of Social Welfare department

District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar today convened a meeting of officers of Social Welfare Department to review the progress under various schemes here.During the meeting, District Social Welfare Officer Kathua Ashraf Choudhary presented an overview of various welfare schemes and scholarship programmes being implemented in the district. He informed that 18128 beneficiaries have been benefitted under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), 5454 beneficiaries under Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), 523 beneficiaries under Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS), 152 beneficiaries under Indira Gandhi National Disability Scheme (IGNDPS), 25 beneficiaries under National Family Benefit Scheme in the district. He also revealed that as many as 7799 students were given to Pre Metric scholarship to SC/OBC whereas 132 students were provided to Post Matric Scholarship to SC/OBC. He added that a total of 75 people were given Skill Development Training under BADP scheme during current financial year. The DDC sought progress report of various scholarship schemes for the people like post, pre matric scholarship schemes and the scholarship of central Minority Affairs ministry.

While reviewing state schemes like Laadli Beti and Aasra, the DDC asked the Social Welfare Department to ensure adequate implementation of the scheme so that positive disposition about the girl child is created across the state.On the progress of the AASRA scheme, the DDC was informed that around 2320 people have been covered under the scheme. The DDC asked officials to expedite the process of implementing the scheme. He called for taking more steps towards ensuring maximum publicity and awareness about such schemes through awareness drives besides use of print & electronic media.DDC also called for speedy Adhaar seeding and account updation of beneficiaries and involve Anganwadi Workers and Education Department for the exercise. He also laid stress for considering rehabilitation cases of people affected by cross border firing and provision of pension to handicapped persons due to firing/shelling incidents. He also directed CEO Kathua to organize remedial classes at Nari Niketan for orphan children.
