Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday said the prevailing hostile environment in the sub-continent has the potential to undermine peace and add to the miseries of the common people must change, and for that a new initiative is the need of the hour.He said India and Pakistan, two major countries of the region, need to adopt a sensible approach and realize that war or violence in any form, will not only be utterly futile but will also destabilize the region and the brunt will be borne by the poor toiling masses and the under-privileged.“The leadership of both the countries should without losing any time, start the meaningful dialogue with total sincerity. The war hysteria and antagonistic rhetoric has proved quite counter-productive; therefore the way out is to break the ice and move forward. Domestic compulsions should not determine the nature of relationship between the people of India and Pakistan,” he said, in a press statement issued to KNS.Tarigami said the negative and short-sighted approach will lead to further escalation, hostilities and seriously harm peace in the region.

He said that ignoring the political essence of Kashmir issue by the Central Government and non-initiation of an unconditional dialogue with all shades of Kashmiri leadership is unfortunate and finally results in further complicating the problem. He asserted that while political opportunism and short-sightedness inhibits the Govt. of India to realize the importance of addressing the political aspirations of Kashmiris, nothing should stop the State government in mitigating the sufferings of Kashmiri masses who have faced great odds during the last 5 months of turmoil. He asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who came to power on the slogan of healing touch, should immediately review Public Safety Act (PSA), release political prisoners especially the old, sick and the minors. In addition a comprehensive rehabilitation process should be initiated so that the victims of pellets, bullets and tear gas shells can get adequate and special treatment, he demanded. He said a slew of relief measures for transporters, small business men, fruit growers, daily wage labourers and people associated with tourist industry should be compensated at the earliest. The convention resolved to launch the consistent struggle in favour of addressing the political aspirations of the people by Central and State governments. It also appealed to the political leadership of India and Pakistan as also to the civil societies of both the countries to shun hostilities and urgently initiate a process of credible dialogue. The convention was presided over by Abdul Hamid Wani, senior CPI (M) leader which was also addressed by senior leaders of the party including Mohd.
