CPI (M) senior leader and legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday said that December 6 marks the anniversary of the dark chapter of the demolition of Babri Masjid. “Twenty-four years ago the Sangh Pariwar struck a severe blow at the secular democratic character of the Indian republic by bringing down the Babri Masjid. By this single act, they challenged the constitution and declared their intention to dismantle the democratic and secular framework put in place by the constitution.” Tarigami told CNS that it is no coincidence that Babri Masjid was demolished on the 6th of December which is commemorated as the day that the architect of the constitution of India, Dr. Bhim Roa Ambedkar passed away in 1956.He said that the assault on Babri Masjid was beginning of attack on secular democratic institutions, in order to safeguard and defend values of secularism. People must reiterate their resolve, to resist this authoritarian communal offensive. (CNS)
