International day of specially-abled persons observed in Valley

In connection with international day of differently-abled persons various functions were held across the valley today to mark the day with an aim to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. In Srinagar Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organized a function during which officials highlighted the progress, achievements and future plan of the CRC Srinagar and academic, clinical and various schemes implemented by the Ministry in the interest of specially-abled persons.In Baramulla Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmad Naqash presided over a function organized by the office of the Chief Education Officer under Inclusive Education (IE) component of SSA to observe the day. The DC highlighted the need of empowering the differently-abled sections of the society and said that the district administration will explore every possibility for their welfare.In Anantnag a function to observe the day was attended by legislators, Mohammad Altaf Wani,  Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Abdul Majeed Bhat, B.A. Veeri, DC Anantnag Syed Abid Rasheed, DIG South and senior officers of the district administration.   

The speakers called for providing helping hand to the differently-abled person and stressed that society should encourage the differently-abled children by way of providing them guidance and information about various government sponsored financial schemes and added that the Government and public should join hands to provide a level playing field for them.In Kulgam, DC Showkat Aijaz Bhat presided over a function during which he assured the gathering of physically challenged persons and students of every possible support from the district administration and said they have equal rights and the society cannot ignore them. The function was also attended by ADC, CEO, DPO and officers of Education Department and others.In Kupwara, a function to observe the international day of persons with disabilities was held in which legislator Bashir Ahmad Dar was the chief guest. ADC, CMO, officers of the Social Welfare and district administration, besides a large number of disabled and widows were present in the function. The speakers called for strict implementation of various Government sponsored welfare schemes for disabled persons. 

In Bandipora a function organized by Education Department was held to observe the World Disability Day. DC Sajad Hussain was chief guest on the occasion. The function was attended by CEO, CMO, Principals, ZEOs, disabled persons and a large number of students. On the occasion, various speakers highlighted the issues relating to the welfare of the physically challenged persons and called for special attention from the society and the Government for their welfare. In Shopian day-long camp organized by CEO was held to provide aid to the children with special needs and sensitize the masses about the hardships of the disabled children. DC G. M. Dar was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed wheel chairs and certificates among the disabled children.In Ganderbal Education Department organized a function which was inaugurated by DC Tariq Hussain Ganai. He highlighted various issues related to disabled persons and stressed the need for welfare and rehabilitation of physically challenged persons so that they can also lead a dignified life.
