Chairperson, J&K State Commission for Women (SWC) Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor today called for protection of women rights, and social acceptance of the pivotal role played by women in their professional as well as domestic life.The Chairperson said this during an interactive programme here at Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office Complex. The aim of the programme was to generate awareness among women about their rights guaranteed by the constitution, besides providing information regarding other women centric legislations.She emphasized upon widespread dissemination of information regarding Central and State government schemes for welfare of women folk. She informed that a proposal, for formation of temporary shelters and 24*7 helpline for women victims, is under active consideration of Government.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Samba Sheetal Nanda informed that 24*7 women helpline number ‘9858860104’ and another Toll free Number 1800-180-7063’ working on every Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm, are already functional at Samba.During the programme the participants were informed about the mandate of women commission that includes cases like matrimonial, divorce, alimony, sexual harassment at work places and counseling programmes.The ANM, FMPHW and AWW raised issues regarding pending honorarium and lack of promotional avenues. The female students demanded better transport facilities to their schools. On the occasion, Chairperson informed that commission will be carrying a mass campaign of public education and awareness about the rights available to women under the state and centre laws.Members Dr Kavita Suri, Gulzara Masoodi, ADDC Vivek Sharma, Secretary SWC Aijaz Abdullah and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
