‘Can’t send children to school for entertainment’

Yet again Delhi Public School Srinagar is in news for wrong reasons; courtesy-the ‘insolent and arrogant’ behavior of School Principal Vijay Kumar Dhar towards parents who according to them are the stake-holders of the school given the fact their wards are studying in the Institution.The parents including mothers of many students staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar against the School management on Thursday who alleged that school Principal has been forcing them to send their wards to school for ‘entertainment’ and not for ‘education’. “We can’t put our wards at risk. Either school management provide security to the children or revoke their arbitrary decision. The situation in Valley is not ripe for children to attend the school,” protesting parents told news agency CNS.Accusing School Principal Vijay Kumar Dhar of misbehavior, protesting parents said that school management didn’t take them on board and the decision was taken arbitrarily. “They inform the parents beforehand when it comes to exacting fee but this time they ignored us. The irony is that parents have been directed to bring their children at designated spots where school buses could ferry them to school. Children from Nawab Bazar have to catch the bus at Khanyar Stop while for Eidgah children they have to reach Soura and one more senseless thing is that students from South Kashmir’s Shopian district have to reach Pampore to catch the school bus and that too at 8 in the morning,” they said.Parents said that they were shocked to learn from the Principal that children have to attend the school from December 3 for entertainment and not for any class work. “School didn’t waive off any fee and exacted even transportation charges from us. We will send our children to school only if they assure us security of the children,” they said.School Principal was not available for the comments while an official refused to divulge any information about the issue.
