Taking a dig at Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Dr. Navjot Kaur Siddhu for joining Congress, Punjab Bharatiya Janta Party today stated that it reeked of sheer opportunism on the part of both Mrs. Sidhu and Capt. Amarinder Singh. Addressing media persons in Chandigarh, Punjab BJP secretary, Vineet Joshi said, “Politics does make strange bedfellows. It is the same Navjot Kaur who always used to deride Capt. Amarinder Singh and slam his lifestyle as socially unacceptable and now she has shown no qualms in joining his party”. Citing examples from some video clips wherein, Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu is being seen launching an offensive against Capt. Amarinder, Joshi said, “Mrs. Sidhu had termed the PPCC chief as power hungry slamming him for going into ‘hibernation’ for 4 years and earning profits sitting in Dubai without showing any concern either for his party, his workers or for Punjab. She had said that with elections around the corner, Captain had suddenly started paying lip-service.  Dr. Sidhu had once given Capt. Amarinder a big zero out of ten for his performance as Amritsar’s representative in the Parliament”.

Joshi said that at a point of time Navjot Kaur had even accused Capt. Amarinder and his close associates to be hand in gloves with the Akalis. She detailed further that while Capt. Amarinder has started speaking against illegal mining and other liquor businesses, his close associates in connivance with ruling party bagged  liquor contracts and were also involved in  illegal mining and other such activities.  “Similarly”, Joshi said, “Capt. Amarinder Singh’s feelings about the couple are not hidden from anyone. He had ridiculed Navjot Singh Siddhu by stating that politics was serious business not a comedy show and that he never wanted another trouble-maker after Jagmeet Brar to be in his party.”Castigating Navjot Kaur and Capt. Amarinder, the state party secretary said, “Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu had stated that Captain Amarinder Singh was not the alternative that Punjab was been looking for. Now, when both husband and wife were left lurching high and dry, they suddenly found an alternative and that too in the same person who according to her bore an ‘unacceptable’ behavior. This is sheer opportunism at play”.“Dr Navjot Kaur claims that she had joined the Congress for its ideology. Well, I must say that she had abandoned principles the day she deserted the BJP”, said Joshi.
