Governor participates in Quasiquicentennial celebration of the Alexander Memorial School

Governor N.N. Vohra and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, attended “Jashn-E- Buniyad”, the quasiquicentennial celebration of the Alexander Memorial School, here today.Congratulating the School management, teachers, alumni, students and members of the staff on this joyous occasion the Governor observed that 125 years of functioning of the School is truly a historical occasion for an institution which has become known for its contributions to the promotion of education in the State. He described it as an occasion to look back, with rightful pride, on the past achievements of the institution and to also think about the milestones to be covered in the coming years.The Governor observed that education is of vital importance and good school education lays the strong foundation for the establishment of a sound, wholesome and productive society. He said that the Government of India has been devoting high importance to school education and there are several Central Schemes which provide assistance to the States to promote school education, particularly the achievement of full literacy and the highest possible enrolments. 

While these schemes have led to significant advancement a great deal yet remains to be done to enlarge and upgrade the standards of teaching at the school level.The Governor lauded the scintillating cultural programme based on the theme of peace and harmony and a semi classical dance “Safarnama”, on the history of the School, presented by the students.The function started with prayer by Rev. Udai Singh, Priest Incharge St. Paul’s Church Jammu. The Welcome Address and the School Report was presented by Mrs. Esther William, Principal of the school and a Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. S.K. Munshi, School Coordinator.On the occasion, Rev. P.K. Samantaroy, Bishop addressed the gathering and Mr. Johnny William, IPS presented the brief on history of the School.
