IMRC pledges USD 100,000 for restoration of Jama Masjid in Aligarh Muslim University

The US based Indian Muslim Relief and charities (IMRC) has pledged USD 100,000 for renovating the majestic Jama Masjid in the historic complex of the Aligarh Muslim University campus.The announcement was made by US based President of IMRC, Maqsood Quadri and its executive director, Manzoor Ghori during Aligarh Muslim University, alumni meet 2016 held in the university campus in the month of October, 2016.The majestic Jama Masjid stands tall in the historic complex of the university campus, with soft lines of mighty white domes, and a defiant elevation of the minarets framed as an organic whole, so perfect and distinct in beauty, that was started in construction in the year 1879 and completed in 1912.It caters to the need of more than thousand students residing in two halls of residences (S.S. Hall North and S.S. Hall South). 

Besides, huge number of students from all over the campus gather for Friday prayers, Ijtama on Sunday and eid prayers.For the proper conservation, restoration, renovation of the main mosque, a rough estimate of about Rs. 1 Crore was required.“there existed a shortage of funds towards its completion, and IMRC has kindly consented and committed to compensate for the shortage.$100,000 will cover the remaining amount and preserve a piece of our Islamic history and culture,” said Manzoor Ghori, Executive Director IMRC.The renovation work on Jama Masjid is already in progress.Indian Muslim Relief & Charities (IMRC) is a US based non-profit organization which began in 1981 and helps run several programmes throughout the country in partnership with over 100 organizations. It focuses on providing education, emergency relief, medical & legal aid, shelter and food for the needy. It has been at the forefront of providing immediate relief to affected victims of the 2016 Bihar Floods, 2015 West Bengal Floods, 2015 Nepal earth quakes, 2014 Kashmir Floods, 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, 2012 Assam riots, and other natural/man-made calamities.
