On 2nd relaxation day:Sunday market remain flooded with shoppers

On the second consecutive relaxation day in the Valley, the markets remained flooded with the shoppers who were seen purchasing essential commodities especially the winter stuff including clothes, blankets and other things.Witnesses said that the weekly flea market, popularly known as Sunday market witnessed huge rush of shoppers throughout the day. “The people from different places thronged the market today and purchased several goods here,” witnesses said.Notably, the weekly market stretches from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Polo View area, a distance of half a kilometer. “The huge rush of consumers in the market also led to the traffic jams in the area thereby forcing the commuters to take alternate routes,” witnesses said.Street vendors said that they arrived early in the morning today to get space in the market while some among them failed to find any space in the market and installed their stocks at an extended stretch of the market.

Fayaz Ahmad, one of the street vendors told KNS that it was good to see the huge rush of consumers in the market today as he managed to sell his all stock. “We also installed the stock in previous Sunday’s but unlike previous Sunday’s we managed to sell our full stock,” he said.

He said that most of the shoppers were seen purchasing the winter collections like sweater, blankets, jackets, thermal wears and other things. Notably, the business establishments in the Valley remained closed due to the uprising in the Valley that triggered following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani in a gunfight in Bumdoora village of Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 8 of this year. Following the relaxation call given by the separatist leadership, the markets across the Valley opened for the second consecutive day today.Pertinently, despite shutdown call, the weekly flea market had opened partially on October 02 when it was the 86th consecutive day of shutdown and witnessed a few shoppers.There was some increase in the rush on October 9 which further increased on October 16.
