Samoon reviews functioning of higher educational institutes

Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today visited different higher educational institutes in Srinagar, Sopore and Kupwara, and took stock of their functioning besides reviewing ongoing development works there.During his visit to the Kashmir University Hazratbal, he reviewed ongoing works being executed under RUSA scheme. He also reviewed up-gradation works of administrative block, laboratories and Iqbal Library taken up under the scheme for which Rs 16 crore have already been released to the University. Besides, procurement of books and equipments was also reviewed.The Secretary directed the Engineering Wing of the University to complete the works in a time-bound manner.He also visited Women’s College Srinagar and interacted with principals of various Degree Colleges of the Kashmir Division. 

He was apprised that B. Sc nursing courses with intake capacity of 60 students per College shall be started by the Department in Government College for Women M. A. Road Srinagar, Government College for Women Nawakadal, Government College for Women Pulwama, Government College for Women Anantnag, Government College for Women Baramulla, Government College for Women Sopore, Government Degree College Kupwara and Government Degree College Handwara.He also inspected EDUSAT hub at Women College M.A Road, Srinagar and directed for its immediate revival to supplement educational needs of Higher and School Education.During his visit to Government College for Women Nawakadal, the Secretary reviewed on-going construction of Science-cum-Academic Block taken up under Phase-I of the project. He inspected construction of auditorium, renovation of old building and roofing and rafting of the Main Block. He also inspected Papier-mâché works, Boutique Centre, library and laboratories of the college.Later, Dr Samoon inspected undergoing developmental works at Government College for Women Sopore. He also visited GCW and GDC, Kupwara along with Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara and reviewed ongoing developmental works.
