Thousands of students appeared for Board exams in KashmirAfter attacks many centres relocated

Amid tight security thousands of students Monday appeared for the annual board examinations across Kashmir while at different places unknown persons targeted examinations centres forcing authorities to relocation those for the safety of the students.In order to conduct the examinations smoothly, except staff and police personnel everyone was barred to enter into the examination centres. An official told news agency CNS that all but 480 centres had been set up for about 48,000 candidates for class 12 examination across Kashmir division. He added that tight security arrangements were in place for the smooth conduct of the examinations.The official further said that over 94 percent students of class 12th appeared in their examinations.According to official figures, 30213 students appeared out of a total 31964 in Kashmir.
In Srinagar district, 5617 appeared out of a total number of 5861 students.South Kashmir’s Anantnag (Islamabad) district witnessed highest participation of students where 96 percent students appeared in exams followed by 95 percent in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. Over 2595 aspirant appeared in 24 ‘declared hyper-sensitive’ examination centers in Bandipora.The statistics of Education Department revealed that over 99 percent of students appeared in exams as the department had issued admit cards to the students from their respective institutes across the district. Across three zones-Bandipora, Sumbal and Gurez-2595 students appeared in examination.In Pahnoo area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district unidentified persons attacked examination centre located at Government High School with stones, resulting in the injuries of four students. Police chased away the miscreants and used mild force. The examination centres at Tahab Pulwama were too attacked following which the centres were relocated. Authorities also relocated three examination centres from Soibugh in central Kashmir's Budgam district after a group of people hurled stones at a building where 12th class students were writing their test. Shortly after the attack Government forces deployed outside the Govt Higher Secondary School Soibugh resorted to heavy teargas shelling to chase away the stone-pelters.
Witnesses said that miscreants allegedly thrashed some students returning from the exam centres in Haran and Soibugh chowk.An official said that barring few stray incidents of stone-pelting these examinations were conducted smoothly and peacefully. More than 98 per cent students participated in these examinations.According to the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE), almost 95% students appeared in the examination today. They said out of 31964 students enrolled for appearing in the said examination 30213 students appeared in today’s paper.Giving details, the BOSE authorities said that in Srinagar out of 5741 students 5417 (96%) appeared in the examination today. Similarly, in Ganderbal out of 1259 students 1175 (94%) appeared, in Budgam out of 3484 students 3309 (98%) appeared, in Anantnag out of 4929 students 4740 (98%) appeared, in Kulgam out of 1483 students 1379 (93%) appeared, in Pulwama out of 2646 students 2506 (95%) appeared, in Shopian out of 1674 students 1568 (94%) appeared, in Bandipora out of 1404 students 1303 (94%) appeared, in Baramulla out of 4912 students 4603 (94%) appeared and in Kupwara out of 4322 students 4024 (96%) appeared.
