The Congress legislators must give a second thought to quitting state assembly as their resignations are still pending with the speaker and they must retract in the larger interest of the state and participate in the proposed one day emergency session of the assembly next week.Hoping against hope that wisdom would prevail over the Congressmen, leader of the SAD in Lok Sabha Ranjit Singh Brahmpura said that these legislators had inadvertently fallen in the trap of their leader Amarinder, who is keener to regain lost ground in the party by creating chaos than in protecting the interests of the state.Reminding the Congress legislators that the SAD had ensured smooth unanimous passage of “Punjab Termination of Agreement Act 2004” in the assembly, Brahmpura said that the Congress has acted in diametrically opposed direction in a similar situation of acute crisis now. Like SAD, Congress too should support the government of the day and contribute positively in the deliberations during session aimed to evolve a comprehensive strategy to wriggle out the state from present imbroglio, he added.

Since the assembly is on last leg and legislators are to go for couple of months, Congress men presumed they are to lose nothing but they  would realize in retrospect of having lost the faith of their electorate which would give them serious drubbing in the ensuing polls, he  asserted.Dubbing the resignation by legislators and Amarinder from Lok Sabha  as “political farce” , Brahmpura said that the Congress owes an explanation to people as how their resignation  would help in stalling flow of water from Punjab.Brahmpura also asked why only Amarinder, who is to contest assembly poll and has never put his heart in Lok Sabha, has opted out while other party MPs Ravneet Bittu and Santokh Chaudhary and  Rajya Sabha MPs Ambika Soni, Shamsher  S Dullo and Amarinder’s bate noire Partap Singh Bajwa have stayed back.Brahmpura said,” Amarinder’s claim that all of them had submitted their resignation was an afterthought. If it were so, he should have shown these same to media. His raison d’etre for not forwarding their paper is that he wanted them to fight out the SYL issue in parliament is absurd and preposterous. If he wanted his MPs to stay put to fight it out in parliament, why he, as the president and deputy leader of opposition, did not find fit to lead it from the front instead of letting his minions fend for themselves. Or Amarinder presumed, perhaps rightly so, that he was not competent to take a call on the contentious issue of river waters and preferred to resign”.
