Frisking returns in north Kashmir’s Handwara

Commuters term it “unnecessary move”

Random searches and frisking have returned in north Kashmir’s district Kupwara, with commuters alleging wastage of time of hours while travelling.Army and paramilitary forces are on their toes checking vehicular and pedestrian movement at different places, including Bagathpora Handwara.“The army camp in area has erected barricades and is conducting frisking of pedestrians and commuters. We are made to stand in long queues. Sometimes, commuters are forced to wait for hours together in queues after they are de-boarded from the vehicles,” a group of commuters told KNS.In many places in Kupwara, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police personnel were seen jointly checking identity cards and frisking pedestrians.Police and paramilitary forces also conducted similar searches and frisking at other routes of the district.Locals said that troopers check their identity cards, search pockets, vehicle and other valuable they carry.“We want such unnecessary moves that put common pubic to immense hardships must end immediately,” they said.
