Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq, today said the Rural Development Department will build sports infra in rural areas to help youth to showcase their talent.The Minister said this while inaugurating a playground at Kulan village of Gund block of Kangan. The playground was built by the RDD under MGNREGA at a cost of Rs 6 lakh. He also announced the extension of the stadium and directed the concerned to start work on it.Saying that the Government is making all out efforts to promote sports activities in the State by providing requisite facilities to youth, he said this would provide opportunities to them for honing their talents so that they can compete at National & International levels and bring laurels to the state.He also laid foundation stone of Foot Bridge at Hayen village in Kangan which is to be repaired by installing steel super structure at the cost of Rs 53 lakh.

The Minister said the Rural Development Department is known for construction of lanes and drains but the department is responsible for overall development of the rural areas. He said the department would contribute in development of sports infrastructure in villages by converging funds of MGNREGA with other departments. He said RDD would also contribute financially in organizing sports events under the IEC Component of various flagship schemes.He further said that that RDD will assist the State Sports Council for creation of cricket turfs in every village of the state on 60:40 sharing basis wherein the Department will contribute in labour component under MGNREGA.Earlier, during his 3-day visit to Kargil, Mr. Haq announced that RDD will construct Ice-hockey ring and Polo-ground at Kargil on international standards and directed the officials to prepare DPR for the same at an earliest. He said Polo and Ice hockey is very popular in Kargil region and the Government will provide all necessary facilities to boost sports infrastructure at par with the international standards.
