DC Anantnag reviews PMUY implementation

The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) LPG connection scheme in the district.Officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department (FCS&CA) and dealers of local gas agencies attended the meeting.During the meeting, the gas dealers were apprised about the various facets and guidelines of the PMUY and were told that before issuing LPG connection to a BPL family, the concerned should establish that the beneficiary’s name should figure in Socio-Economic Caste Census- 2011. Besides, gas connection should mandatorily be issued in the name of female member of the BPL family.

The concerned gas agencies were impressed to furnish weekly list of the applicants to the FCS&CA Department after due verification for consent.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that PMUY scheme is aimed to ensure the affordability and availability of safe and clean fuel to all the poor households by providing LPG connection to them for free of cost. Under the scheme, the Government provides a cash assistance of Rs 1600 to the applicants.The DC said that any dealer found violating the PMUY guidelines would be dealt under law. He instructed them to issue refilled LPG cylinder and cooking stove only on loan as provided under the scheme to the applicants.Owing to the impending winter season, the DC also reviewed buffer stock position of LPG in the district. He called upon dealers of gas agencies to ensure adequate stock of LPG cylinders is made available for the convenience of the consumers.
