Police foil AIP’s secretariat ‘Ghearo’, 70 including Rashid arrested

At least 12 protestors were injured when police used force to disperse AIP’s secretariat ‘Gherao’ march near civil secretariat against terminating services of many employees from police and civil administration, an AIP statement said on Monday.Defying strict police restrictions, hundreds of protestors led by AIP chief and MLA Langate Er Rashid gathered near Jehangir Chowk and started marching towards civil secretariat.Protestors were holding black flags, placards and banners seeking revocation of termination orders of employees.However, when procession reached near secretariat, heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces stopped them and used force to disperse the protestors.Protestors gave stiff resistance to police but police dragged Rashid along with at least 70 protestors and lodged them in Police Station Shaheed Gunj, the statement said.During the scuffle 8 protestors sustained injured, four of whom were hospitalised. However, despite arrests and use of force, protestors reassembled near civil secretariat and outside police station Shaheed Gunj in groups and started chanting slogans.Police again used force resulting injuries to four more protestors, the statement said.
