Sham Lal Choudhary for ensuring adequate water supply during festive season

Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today convened a meeting to review water supply position in Jammu.The Minister took a comprehensive review of the status of various ongoing Water Supply Schemes and directed the Chief Engineer to  pursue the matter with Economic Reconstruction Agency for expediting the pace of ongoing works. He stressed on taking requisite steps to augment water supply in view of the ensuing festive season so that people do not face any inconvenience.The Minister further directed that Executive Engineers must have constituency wise detail of Water Supply Schemes and asked the concerned field officers to ensure prompt steps to redress the issues of the people.The Minister was informed that 213 hand pumps have been repaired in various areas of the state and the formalities for installing new hand pumps have been completed. He was also informed that the overall supply of water is normal, barring a few areas.Minister directed the Chief Engineer to put in extra efforts for streamlining the supply in the water scarce areas and also to ensure that water supply should not be affected due to strike called by casual and need based workers.The Minister directed the concerned officers to start installation of new hand pumps as soon as possible.
