Students’ union protest, demand deferment of exams

‘Give us time to complete syllabus’

All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union (AJKSU) Thursday staged protests over the government plan of holding exams from mid-November.The students here have demanded deferment of exams till they complete their syllabus.The protesting students who assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave were carrying placards displaying ‘Is prison my examination hall’, ‘bring back my vision, I will appear in exams’, ‘Stop human rights violation in Kashmir, free Khurram Pervaz and others.’Talking to KNS, the aggrieved students said that they have not completed their syllabus and failed to attend their classes from past three months. “How is it possible for us to appear in exams when we have not completed our syllabus,” the students said.They said that holding exams at this stage is tantamount to leaving them uneducated. “We should at least attend 180 classes to appear in exams. What will we write in exams as we have not attended the sufficient classes to become eligible for examinations,” they said.

The protesting students said that the government should defer the exams till the students complete their syllabus. “We must be given chance to complete syllabus so that we can be fully prepared to appear in exams,” they said.Demanding immediate end to the human rights violation, the students said, “Government should focus on creating free and peaceful atmosphere for the exams instead of forcing us to appear in exams.”Appealing government to offer some schemes for the pellet victims, the students said, “The government should provide some schemes to the pellet victims especially students so that they could feel a sigh of relief in future and can pursue their education.”The students also demanded immediate release of noted Human Right activist, Khurram Pervaz and other students who have been arrested and are languishing in different jails of state.However, the students later dispersed peacefully.
