Amid controversy over class 10 and 12 exams, the engineering students Monday boycotted annual examinations, conducted by Board of Technical Education. Students boycotted the tests of 6th semester which commences from October 17, as a mark of protest against civilian killings and citing other reasons for their non-appearance in exams.Students assembled at lawns of Government Women’s Polytechnic College in Bemina, which was listed as their examination centre. They raised pro-freedom and exam boycott slogans. The examinations were scheduled to start around 9 AM.Citing reasons for boycotting the planned tests, students told KNS that “atmosphere for examination was not conducive.”“Our scores of class mates have been jailed, maimed and blinded. Government must also speak about their fate, if they are sincere about the future of students,” they said. The students said that the government should stop politicizing students and their educational careers.“We have neither completed our syllabus nor are ready to sit in exams. The government is forcing us to appear in exams which will result in jeopardy to our career,” students said.Authorities had issued shot the date sheet through SMS to the students and uploaded on official website. It was nut, however, published in daily locals, as has been the practice in past. (KNS)
