138982 MTs of food-grains distributed in Kashmir from July to Sept 2016: Dir FCS&CA

Despite various odds, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) has distributed 138982.23 MTs of rations including rice, flour and sugar among the consumers in Kashmir division during the past three months.According to Mr Tassaduq Jeelani, Director FCS&CA Kashmir, despite facing severe hardships amid turbulence in the Valley, the employees of the Department kept the ration depots functional, in every nook and corner of the Valley, and ensured availability of food-grains and other essentials to the people.Giving details of the distribution of essential commodities in Kashmir division, Mr Jeelani said the Department distributed 129530.60 MTs of rice and atta between July 2016 and September 2016. Similarly, he said, 9451.63 MTs of Sugar were distributed among the consumers during this period.Giving the district-wise details, the Director said the off-take of rice, under NFSA and MMSEF, for district Anantnag from July 2016 to September 2016 was 190490 Qtls, for Baramulla 186566 Qtls, for Bandipora 71925.37 Qtls, for Budgam 143267 Qtls, for Ganderbal 60697 Qtls, for Kupwara 133898.45 Qtls, for Kulgam 81670.65 Qtls, for Pulwama 102608.25 Qtls, for Shopian 54425 Qtls, for Srinagar 229647.13 Qtls, for Leh 21644 Qtls, and for Kargil 18466.25 Qtls.

He said the off-take of rations by the Department has been between 93 to 95% all these months, which is as good as off-take during normalcy.The Director said that between July 2016 and September 2016, the oil companies have distributed 1091995 LPG cylinders in Kashmir valley while 136298 cylinders were distributed this month.Giving details of the stock position, Mr Jeelani said that at present there are 230172 LPG cylinders, 2880 KLs of Motor Spirit, 6811 KLs of High Speed Diesel and 4543 KLs of Superior Kerosene Oil available in the valley which are sufficient for next 20 days.The Director commended the employees of the Department for reaching out to the people amid trying circumstances and ensuring adequate supply of rations and other essentials commodities.
