Minister inaugurates newly constructed road in Basohli

Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Ch. Lal Singh today said that the government has taken up several projects to improve road network in all parts of the state which holds key to socio economic development of area.The Minister said this while inaugurating newly constructed road from Ghagrore to Plakah here at tehsil Basohli, District Kathua. The work on 16 km road will be executed by PWD(R&B) at the cost of Rs 30 lakh per Km.Addressing local people, Ch. Lal Singh said that Government is committed to holistic development and urged people to become partner in the development of the state. He further said that Basholi is blessed with natural scenic beauty with massive forest cover and can be developed as an attractive tourist destination.The Minister asserted that focused attention is being paid on development of tourism potential areas to increase footfall which would generate employment and improve the socio- economic condition of the locals. He further added that people of Basholi bear additional responsibility to conserve the natural beauty of this place and act as true guardian of the green wealth.
He appealed people to take up afforestation on mission mode to preserve ecological equilibrium of the area.Listing steps taken to preserve the natural resources in the area, he said 5000 Kanal encroached land has been retrieved in Basholi adding a nursery will be established at Hutt where 5 lakh tree saplings of different species will be grown. He also assured the people that repair work of Dhar Mahanpur road will be taken up soon. “Basholi constituency will witness a turn around when development works worth Rs 200 crore will be completed” he said. The minister also stressed upon the people to take maximum benefits of welfare schemes launched by state as well as central government. He directed all the concerned officers to create mass awareness about these schemes.The minister was accompanied by Chairman PCB Ravi Kesar, Dir. Social Forestry A K Tickoo, CCF Jammu Roshan Jaggi, MD SFC Suresh Gupta, Jt. Dir. FPF Kh. Quamardin, DFOs and several District and Tehsil level officers.
