Union Government gives in Principle clearance to Katra- –Amritsar-Delhi Expressway

The Punjab Government today added another big achievement to its credit when the Union Minister Road Transport and National Highway Mr. Nitin Gadkari cleared in principle proposed alignment of Katra - Amritsar – Delhi via Jind- Barnala- Moga and Amritsar. The decision was taken in a meeting held at Delhi. The meeting was attended by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal and the Chief Minister of Haryana Mr. Manohar Lal.Disclosing this, an official spokesman of the Punjab Government said that the project is estimated to cost Rs. 70000 crores and would reduce the distance between Delhi & Amritsar by more than 100 kms. With the completion of this project the distance between Delhi and Amritsar will be covered in less than 3 Hours.

The Union Minister while finalizing the alignment and other details also told both the leaders that soon all the alignment and project details would be shared with both Haryana and Punjab so that work on acquisition could begin within a time span of 2 months.Granting another gift to Punjab, Mr. Gadkari also gave in principle go ahead to Jalandhar- Ajmer Expressway and its proposed alignment via Jalandhar-Moga-Bathinda and Ajmer.Hailing this expressway as a very big boost and the game changer to the national as well as the Punjab’s economy, S. Badal said this Expressway will cut Jammu-Kandla distance by more than 600 kms. This Expressway would approximately cost Rs. 80000 crores.S. Badal called both these decisions of the Union Minister as historic and path breaking and said these two Expressways would render yeoman’s service as the life line of the people of Punjab.
