Govt committed to welfare of senior citizens : Dr Nirmal Gupta

Chairperson J&K State Social Welfare Board (J&K SSWB) Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta today said that the government is committed to create facilities and extend benefits to senior citizens under the relevant rules.“Every effort is being made to ensure welfare of the seniors and the process to frame rules and laws is on in this regard” Dr Nirmal Gupta said at a function organized to mark World Elders Day by All J&K Senior Citizens’ Welfare Council.She said that every individual has a right to live a dignified life and with the focused schemes by the center and state governments for differently abled, senior citizens, BPL people soon a positive change will be visible in the society. She said that the department is formulating many welfare schemes which would greatly assist and improve the life of seniors in the state.

Appreciating the works done by the organisation, she said that today's celebration saw an amalgamation of the rural and urban culture with the popular and regional music coming together on the same platform. These events are essential for the mental and emotional well being of senior citizens she added.Earlier, president, KK Gandotra  listed various works undertaken by the Council  and highlighted  various issues   of the seniors, including reservation in all public transport, especially in local buses, concessional travel, day crèche, medical dispensaries focused on the old age ailments, home medical  care among many other things.All J&K Senior Citizens’ Welfare Council president, KK Gandotra, General Secretary Manjeet singh, Gandhi Global Family president S.P Verma and many prominent senior citizens.
