Two would-be grooms die in road accidents in South Kashmir

Army convoy halted at Jawahar Tunnel, Registration numbers noted

Two Kashmiri youth who were scheduled to get married next month died in separate road accidents in South Kashmir’s twin districts of Kulgam and Anantnag. The erring drivers, one from Army fled from the spot while police registered cases to nab them.Police sources told news agency CNS that a speedy truck (JK14E/0556) hit a motorcycle near Bhadragund Qazigund area of Kulgam district killing a youth on spot while his cousin Umar Bashir Mir sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Emergency Hospital Qazigund. The slain youth whom police identified as Mudasir Salam Mir (23) of Wanpora Qazigund was scheduled to get married in the next month.The driver according to police fled from the spot while his truck was seized. “We have registered a case vide FIR number 260/2016 under section 304A, 379 and hunt has been launched to arrest the accused driver,” said a police official.In another road accident at Khanabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a would be groom was killed when according to eyewitnesses a speedy Army vehicle hit his motorcycle (PB43C/9414). 

Police identified the slain youth as Nazim Rehman Wani son of Jalaluddin of Kelam Kulgam and said that the pillion rider Fayaz Manzoor Wani of the same village sustained grievous injuries and is being treated in Saddar Hospital Anantnag. The slain youth according to family members was scheduled to get marriedStation House Officer Saddar Police Station Ayaz Geelani told CNS that he himself rushed to Jawahar Tunnel and noted the registration numbers of many army vehicles. “After the accident, we managed to halt the army convoy through wireless message near Jawahar Tunnel. I personally visited their and noted the registration numbers of army vehicles. I assure the bereaved family that justice will be delivered to them,” he said adding that they have registered a case vide FIR number 363/2016 under section 304A, 379. next month in October. (CNS)
