People across the valley Saturday afternoon witnessed semblance of normalcy as joint resistance leadership had called relaxation after 2pm for a day.Markets in Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla and other districts re-opened after 78 days, during the day.Hundreds of people throng markets and shopkeepers, street vendors and other business establishments witnessed a good business.Massive traffic jams was witnessed in city centre Srinagar while similar reports were received room other district headquarters.The markets also re-opened in old city in Srinagar. The peaceful protest was also taken out at Nowhatta, however, markets remained open.Stone pelting incident occurred at Safa Kadal, Lawapora, Sakdaffar, Kani Kadal, while the situation by and large remained peaceful.At Palhallan, people took out pro-freedom march which was stopped by the forces, resulting in clashes. Six persons were reportedly injured in the forces action.During the initial days of present unrest, joint resistance leaders had called for deal after 2’ O’ Clock for a day, however, had withdrawn it under after facing opposition for the move.DG Law and order, SP Vaid said that barring few minor stone pelting incidents, the situation remained normal across the valley.“Curfew was not imposed anywhere today. However, restrictions were put on place at few places for the safety of public life and property,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued to KNS by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, the situation across the valley remained normal and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the valley. However, miscreants attempted to create disturbances in Anantnag and Sopore. “There was no curfew in any part of the valley,” it said. According to the statement at main Chowk Sopore and KP road Anantnag miscreants in their attempt to create disturbances pelted stones on shopkeepers when they were today opening their shops. Police and security force deployments immediately reached the spots and chased away miscreants and normalized the situation, it said. The statement said that police, during past 24 hours arrested 39 more miscreants who were wanted in the offences of harassing shops keepers, creating disruptions in traffic movement by stone pelting and by placing obstructions on roads and lanes, and also found involved in damaging public/private property.According to the statement the situation across the Jammu region remained normal and peaceful. However, curfew was imposed in main town Kishtwar as a precautionary measure this morning, it said. (KNS)
