DC Kulgam reviews functioning of Agriculture Department

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat today convened a meeting to review the functioning of Agriculture and allied departments in the district.The meeting was attended by the district officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Floriculture and Apiculture.The meeting had a threadbare discussion on the issues confronting the department during the last two months. During the meeting the Chief Agriculture officer informed the Deputy Commissioner that the department had this time introduced popular rice variety of Mushkibudej in the district for the crop quality of rice. It was revealed in the meeting that an expected production of rice is 96000 MT this year, besides the department had set up some vegetable clusters including Kanipora, Poniwah and Wasirpora in the district.The Sericulture department on the occasion apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the problems faced by the cocoon rearers for the proper marketing in the district. It is worth to mention here that the Department of Sericulture had produced about 2700kgs of cocoon in the district this year which is yet to lift for marketing.The Deputy Commissioner on the occasion assured that all the issues regarding public interest would be solved on priority. He stressed upon the officers to help the farmers by giving them timely technical advice besides remain available in the field.
