National Conference (NC) on Sunday said the brutal and barbaric killing of an 11 yr old student from New Theed in Srinagar had yet again exposed the tall claims of both the Central Government and the state government and underlined the insensitivity with which New Delhi continues to deal with the unrest in Kashmir. In a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar to KNS, National Conference state spokesperson, Junaid Azim Mattu said “Mehbooba Mufti’s deafening silence over the barbaric and brutal murder of young Nasir Shafi Qazi of New Theed had added to the unimaginable pain and grief in Kashmir once more and yet again brought shame and disrepute to the high office she occupies.” “We express our solidarity with Nasir’s parents and his family and also the families of more than 85 young boys and girls who have lost their lives in this unrest. The continued use of pellet guns shows the barbarity and brutality with which New Delhi is handling a political issue in Kashmir and belittles the flowery rhetoric of the Prime Minister,” the spokesman added. He said that it is evident that such atrocities in Kashmir find a sadistic acceptability in the power corridors of New Delhi and also enjoy a tragic social sanctity in the country because of the regressive, jingoist narrative that has been painstakingly engineered to distort the truth. “Had this happened in any other part of the country – the repercussions and public outcry would have been unimaginable”, the NC Spokesperson said.

The NC Spokesperson also expressed grief and sorrow over the brutal pellet gun attack on a mentally challenged individual Showkat Ahmed Misger in Safa Kadal who has sustained serious injuries in his brain, eyes and chest.“Even mentally challenged, handicapped individuals seem to be valid targets of this unabated brutality. What threat did a mentally challenged person pose to the integrity and sovereignty of the country that he had to be shot so mercilessly? Was he attacking an army camp or trying to 'buy milk or toffees' from a Police Station as insensitively mocked by Mehbooba Mufti? Repression seems to be crossing all limits as the political narrative is getting more and more reductionist and regressive by each passing day”, the NC Spokesperson said.“We also strongly condemn the assault on protesters at various places across the valley including South and North Kashmir. Reports suggest more than thirteen thousand civilians have been injured till now and there is no end in sight. There is no sign of restraint or political engagement as repeatedly claimed by Mehbooba Mufti and the Central Government. The sense of impunity is getting strengthened by each passing day”, the NC Spokesperson added. (KNS)
