40 NCC cadets of JK take up sailing expedition

A group of 40 NCC cadets including twenty two boys and eighteen girls of Jammu and Kashmir have taken up a sailing expedition at Govind Sagar reservoir of Bhakra dam of river Sutlej.The expedition, sponsored by J&K Naval unit NCC Srinagar, started on September 6 would continue till Sept 15.The expedition was flagged off by the commanding officer of   Himachal Pradesh Naval Unit NCC, Lieutenant Commander Sujit Kumar from water sports centre Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.A total 22 boy and 18 girl cadets from different regions of J&K are participating in the ten day event to experience the life at sea. The team will be guided and navigated by the highly skilled instructors of Indian Navy. During the expedition the team will be covering an approximate distance of 400 km and will be closely monitored and supported from a safety boat. In case of any emergency, availability of a rescue boat is also ensured. 

To make the expedition more interesting and beneficial, visit to various important installations and religious places of interest in this region will also be undertaken.The cadets were put through a rigorous training schedule at Mansar Lake in Jammu to take on the challenges of this expedition which was closely supervised by the group Commander of NCC Srinagar Group Commander, Brigadier SD Mehta, SM and supported by NCC Dte J&K.“On accomplishment of this expedition the cadets will not only be physically fit and mentally agile for taking on a career in Indian Navy but also in facing the challenges of their life,” commanding officer of Naval Unit NCC Srinagar Commander Sujit K Singh said.Maj Gen SS Jakhar, ADG NCC Directorate J&K is also scheduled to visit the expedition.
