Governor plants a sapling at Rajhana village

Governor Acharya Devvrat today planted a sapling at village Rajhana near Shimla town along with the school children. He was accompanied by the Lady Governor Smt. Darshana Devi, who also planted a sapling on the occasion.The plantation programme was organized by State Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Rajhana panchayat with the help of the Forest department.Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, preserving soil and supporting wildlife.  He said every individual should participate in plantation activities to expand the greenry of the area adding that more focus would be given on organizing plantation programs in the years to come so that more and more people could be associated with it. 

He appealed the villagers, particularly the mahila mandals, to involve themselves in this drive and urged the students to motivate others.  He said every individual should plant a sapling on special occasions like birthdays, marriage anniversaries, etc. and also to ensure their survival.Acharya Devvrat also interacted with the villagers and inquired about the problems they were facing in their day-to-day life.Shri Naresh Kumar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Rajhana, Shri Mahender Sharma up-Pradhan and Smt. Kamla Thakur, Pradhan, Mahila Mandal Rajhana welcomed the Governor and the Lady Governor. 

Executive Members of State Red Cross and Hospital Welfare Society, officers of forest department, school children and other prominent people of the area joined the plantation drive.Earlier, the Governor flagged off two trucks carrying relief material like tents, blankets and clothes etc. contributed by the State Red Cross for distribution amongst the needy persons of Lahaul and Spiti and Sirmour districts.Secretary to the Governor Shri Pushpendra Rajput, Secretary, State Red Cross Shri P.S. Rana were also present on the occasion.
