JKWDC holds awareness camp in Kathua

Jammu & Kashmir State Women  Development Corporation (JKWDC) today organised a Loan Mela-cum-Awareness Camp here at Kartar Public School Barnoti to sensitize local women about the schemes implemented by the Corporation.MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia was the chief guest where as Managing Director, JKWDC, Dr Naheed Soz was the guest of honor on this occasion.The camp was sponsored by National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Soz highlighted various schemes and achievements of the Corporation which have significantly contributed towards women empowerment. She exhorted upon women to come forward and avail the benefits of these schemes.  She also spoke about the schemes Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.She further said that the Corporation is implementing a number of Developmental Schemes for Socio-Economic Upliftment of Women with special focus on the families living Below Poverty Line (BPL) & Women belonging to Minorities, Backward & Other Classes.

“Creation of confidence and awareness among members of SHGs regarding women’s status, health, education, sanitation, hygiene, legal rights, economic upliftment and other socio- economic as well as political issues besides making women self reliant by helping them to establish income generating units by providing soft loans at a very low rate of interest are the objectives of JKWDC”, informed the Managing Director.MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia while speaking on the occasion said that these types of camps are essential for creating awareness as well as the financial empowerment of women.The MLA further said that Identification of Activities, Trades for skill up gradation training and subsequent framing of Self Help Groups   for providing micro credit are different spheres in which the Women Development Corporation is working.Strengthening and institutionalizing the saving habits among rural women and the control over economic resources are the main motto of JKWDC, said the MLA.Among others, the camp was attended by the representatives of Health, Education, JKEDI, various NGO`s and Social Welfare Departments and large number of people.   Later, Dr. Soz also inspected the stalls which were established by the women beneficiaries who were provided   loan and training facilities by WDC.
