CM Envisions Meritorious Schools As Harbingers Of Development And Prosperity In The State

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today envisioned the meritorious schools as harbingers of development and prosperity in the state by providing quality education to the bright students from economically weaker sections. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating meritorious school here today, the Chief Minister said that the state was blessed with students who despite belonging to economically weaker strata of society were excellent in their studies. He said that the state government had opened these schools with a sole aim to tap their enormous potential to full extent. Mr. Badal said that this model of schooling was need of the hour to ensure that students from economically weaker sections were enormously benefitted.The Chief Minister further said that the sole aim of setting up these schools was to provide free quality education and hostel facilities for all the brilliant students of the government schools, who had scored 80% or above marks in the Matriculation examinations. He said that this school has been established on the pattern of already existing seven such Meritorious Schools at SAS Nagar (Mohali), Patiala, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Talwara (Hoshiarpur) adding that two more schools in Sangrur and Ferozepur would also be dedicated to people very soon. 

Mr. Badal said that these schools were not only imparting academic education but also providing coaching to students for the competition exams, communication skills and others so as to compete at par with their peers from public and convent schools.The Chief Minister said that this unique model of schools has been lauded by one and all adding that even Union Finance Minister and Union Minister Ms. Smriti Irani had appreciated this model during their visit to these schools. He said that it was matter of immense pride and satisfaction that this year 31 students from these schools have secured admission in IITs. Later on the Chief Minister also inaugurated 100 bed hospital and a drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in the city.The Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, MLA Mr. GS Babbehali, Joint Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Kumar Amit, Special Secretary Health Mr. Vikas Garg, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. AK Mittal, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Pradeep Sabharwal and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Jaspreet Singh.
