Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today said that development of the Tawi river front is a prestigious project which will not only boost the tourism but provide the people with a green recreation space.He said this while chairing a review meeting regarding various aspects of the Tawi Riverfront Development project at Jammu Development Authority office here today.The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh, Vice Chairman JDA Mubarak Singh, Commissioner JMC Manmohan Singh, Development Commissioner Works, Chief Engineers from R&B, I&FC, Designs and UEED, Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India, Dir. Central Water Commission, Director Floriculture and the team from SRFDCL who are the Management Consultant for the project. Addressing the meeting, Dr Nirmal Singh said that this is a dream project for the people of the sate which will help in sustainable and integrated development of Tawi river front.“Apart from development of tourism, this project will lead to large scale infrastructure improvement, help retain and replenish the water, bank protection, flood management, providing better waterway” he said.

Dy CM added that “This project will also lead to the development of green spaces along the river front which will give Jammuites and tourist a public recreational space."The Deputy CM while nominating Vice Chairman JDA as the Nodal Officer directed the executing agencies to develop a detailed timeline for the execution of the project. He gave strict directions for the remaining data collection process to be expedited and for the DPR to be submitted at the earliest.The management consultant team from the Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) gave a presentation listing every technical aspect, projections, proposed plans for the development of the river front and invited inputs of experts from various state departments.The pilot project area under the Tawi Riverfront Development project is the stretch of 2.5 km between the Fourth Tawi Bridge and Sher–e- Kashmir Bridge on both the banks in the city of Jammu.The proposed project aims for a safer, integrated, inclusive, cleaner and sustainable development of the Tawi river front. 

During the meeting detailed discussions were held regarding the technical aspects of the project. The present officers from various concerned departments took part in the discussions and gave their expert inputs regarding the on ground execution of the project. Various technical approvals were also sought and multiple queries raised were answered during the meeting.Many practical scenarios both derived from the analytical analysis and past experiences were discussed in detail, considerations were held to ensure prevention and protection from these scenarios and provisions for same were asked to be developed and added to the DPR.The meeting was also informed that special provisions are being made to accommodate the projected heavy flow of water during monsoons in Jammu and multiple safety measures have been proposed to be employed as part of the plan.
