Prof. Saifuddin Soz seeks Musharraf’s formula for resolution of Kashmir issue

Says let us wage a vigorous fight, democratically

Lashing out at Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley for provoking people a few days back in a rally in Jammu, former Union Minister and senior congress leader, Prof Saif ud Din Soz on Tuesday said he believes that reviving Delhi Agreement within the framework of what was known at one point of time as Manmohan-Musharraf 4-Point Formula for resolution of Kashmir dispute.Addressing a news conference here at local hotel, Soz said demanded restoration of those provisions which were publicized in 4-point formula by General Pervez Musharraf.He said that when things could move forward to get concretized in 2007, Pakistan’s internal security had worsened and talks could not be held. “The discussions around this point of time can also fine-tuning of the formula to the needs of the stakeholders. “It could now be characterized as Modi-Nawaz formula. Fortunately, this formula does not entail defeat for either of the parties to the dispute,” he said.

Soz said that “We must take help from our history, both distant and recent, to understand how to organize things afresh. If we decide to play the game democratically, we will not only be respected and supported nationally and internationally, but, our voice will be heard in a manner that can help us to achieve our purpose.”In his strategy to “wage the struggle vigorously”, Soz has suggested ten steps which call for not “creating the barriers between and unionists and otherwise”.He apparently referred to unionists and pro-freedom leadership in his first step. “Let the ideas be allowed to flow freely.”Soz said that Hurriyat leadership “deserves” respect. “And it must express ideas, as it suits it to do.”He said the unionists, and youth leaders should also freely express their opinion on relevant issues.Soz while seeking resumption of daily life and opening of schools and colleges said that “let dialogue process start in Srinagar and it can be held in Delhi or elsewhere.”To discuss his ideas and suggestions, Soz has invited Dr Karan Singh, former Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and leftist Sitaram Yachuri, besides he appealed India and Pakistan to decide to start a meaningful dialogue over Kashmir. He said he has already met them in Delhi. (KNS)
