Sikh bodies support Right to Self Determination for JK

Says will follow protest programmes in letter and spirit

Condemning the use of pellet guns in Kashmir, the various Sikh bodies on Monday supported the Right to Self Determination for the people of state.In a joint news conference at Srinagar’s press enclave, various Sikh bodies including Sikh Intellectual Circle Jammu and Kashmir, Shiromani Akali Dal, International Sikh Federation and Sikh Student Federation condemned the use of pellet guns and ‘brutal forces’ against unarmed protesters in Valley.Chairman of Sikh Intellectual Circle Jammu Kashmir, Narindar Singh Khalsa said, “The right to self determination should be given to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which was promised by the then Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. We (Sikh community) support people of Kashmir in their struggle of Plebiscite.”

He said that they have supported the protest programmes called by the separatist leadership and will continue to follow it till the demand, right to self determination will not be given to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.“Our team visited the families who lost their beloved one’s or got maimed or blinded during the current unrest. We are expressing sympathy with the people victim families and at the same time condemn the brutal use of forces against the unarmed protesters,” he said.Singh said that Human Right Organizations and United Nations (UN) should look into the Human Rights violations that are being committed in Kashmir and they should also press India to deliver justice to every Kashmiri, who suffered loss from past several decades.

Appealing both neighbouring countries including India and Pakistan to read what is written on the walls, he said, “A meaningful dialogue should be initiated with the people of Kashmir for the restoration of peace here.”Refuting the claims any security threat to the Sikh community, Singh as per KNS correspondent said that “those who say that Sikhs are in danger and should be given security in Kashmir are the puppets of RSS and other Indian agencies. The fight of Kashmiris is not any religious fight but a fight for justice and right to self-determination,” he said. (KNS)
