Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani while hailing the deep concern of UN Secretary General Banki Moon, about the deteriorating situation in Jammu and Kashmir has said that we are fighting for implementation of the resolutions of this United Nations for the last 70 years. Addressing the Secretary General He said that you and your institution is well aware of the fact that this unfortunate region has been forcibly occupied by India in 1947 and since then we are struggling to free ourselves from this Indian military grip by almost all means. Syed Ali Geelani further said that deployment of 7 lakh armed forces turns this small piece of land into a huge garrison and makes it the densest military concentrated land in the world. More than 6 lakh people have lost the life and in these 70 years hardly any day has passed when our people have not been subjected to any physical or psychological torture by this heavily equipped army.  Commenting on present situation, he further said that last 42 days have been a nightmare for the people, with 72 deaths, 400 blinded and 8000 crippled by army bullets & pallets. Villages, towns and cities have been sieged with thick blanket of strict curfew and whole population has been deprived of their basic daily needs.

Army and police ransack the houses in the dead of night, beating, molesting and killing our people irrespective of their age and gender. As India continues to institutionally perporate violence here in Jammu and Kashmir and has ensured so far that no armed forces personnel involved in such heinous crimes to be prosecuted by their own judicial mechanism, thereby leading to absolute impunity, forcing us to knock the doors of international community especially United Nations to use your good offices and pave way to pressurize India to abide by its global commitment and respect and implement the UN resolutions agreed upon and signed by him. Hurriyat (G) chairman further said that it is not a dispute between India and Pakistan, but internationally recognized dispute with 18 resolutions standing witness to it. He urged the Secretary General to practically come to the rescue of oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir as this is your moral, legal and official commitment. He further said that only the facilitation can’t deter the aggression of ruthless India. Practical and concrete steps from your institution are needed to stop the bloodbath.
