Omar Abdullah led opposition delegation of Jammu & Kashmir after meeting President of India Pranab Mukherjee has decided to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top national opposition leaders to push for a political dialogue over Kashmir issue. The decision follows after an interaction of the delegation with the President who was briefed on the present unrest in Kashmir by Omar Abdullah (National Conference), G.A.Mir (Congress), M.Y.Tarigami (CPI-M), Gh Hassan Mir ( President DPN and former minister) and Hakeem Mohd Yaseen (Chairman Peoples Democratic Front and MLA Khansahib). In response the President of India has promised the delegation that he will take up the issues concerning Kashmir unrest with the Prime Minister.

Well placed sources told KNS that a team of opposition leaders from Jammu & Kashmir told in categorical terms the President of India Pranab Mukherjee about the dangerous turn the present situation in Kashmir has taken and the necessity for a political dialogue over Kashmir to restore peace and normalcy in the state. One of the top leaders accompanying the delegation said “The President was categorically told that the opposition delegation has not come to Delhi for change of guard in Jammu & Kashmir but for giving a push to the process of political dialogue and reconciliation”. In reply to a question he said “We also told the President that the situation has taken the people of Kashmir far away from the national mainstream and if a dialogue over Kashmir is not initiated immediately the current scenario in Kashmir could cast disastrous shadow on stability of peace and security in Indian sub continent”.

He also said “President was told that even the use of deadly military weaponry like mortars and tanks can’t silence the voices of anger and resentment in Kashmir. The only immediate solution is the restoration of a political dialogue”. When asked about the response to their demands the leader said “The President of India assured us that he will take up the issues concerning Kashmir unrest with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now we plan to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top national opposition leaders only to brief them about the dangerous turn the unrest in Kashmir is taking and the necessity for immediate restoration of a serious political dialogue over Kashmir”.
