DDC for registration, relocation of street vendors

Discusses blue print under Street Vending Plan

District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, today convened a meeting with officers of Kathua Municipality to discuss the blue print under the street vending plan as per street vending act and rules.The DDC took a detailed review of functioning of municipality and discussed issues like registration of street vendors and their relocation.The DDC directed EO Municipality to conduct survey of all the street vendors in Kathua to register them and ensure that proper I-cards be given to them along with particular location. He asked municipal authorities to ensure that vendors  are  registered with municipality and one person shall run only one vending shop in area assigned in the registration certificate.DDC also stated that street vendors, being micro entrepreneurs should be provided with vocational education and training and entrepreneurial development skills to upgrade their technical and business potentials so as to increase their income levels as well as to look for more remunerative alternatives.He further said that a committee, comprising PO DUDA, EO Municipality, Officers of MVD, Police and Revenue department besides members of Beopar Mandal and representatives of vendors  union, will soon be constituted to look into several issues of street vendors. The main task of the committee would be to find a suitable and a particular place where the registered vendors can be suitable  relocated .The DDC issued strict instructions for removing encroachments along footpaths, roads and streets. He  directed that the Beopar Mandal and EO Municipality to ensure adequate number of dustbins are placed  to maintain  hygiene and cleanliness in and around the city.He also raised serious concern regarding traffic congestion in various markets due to encroachments and further directed the EO Municipality to take appropriate measures in this regard.The DDC also constituted a committee to conduct survey for relocation of vendors so that the problem of encroachment by street vendors shall be addressed.
