Kavinder Gupta inaugurates ‘Colours of Independence’ campaign

Appeals people to maintain communal harmony, brotherhood

As a part of Independence Day celebration, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, today inaugurated week-long ‘Colours of Independence’ campaign at Jammu Tawi Railway Station.The programme is being organised by the Central Silk Board, Union Ministry of Textiles in which a Khadi fabric has been kept for local people to express their thoughts through colours on the fabric with their own unique interpretation of National Independence, hope and aspiration for the future.Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta congratulated the people for celebrating 70th Independence Day and appealed the people to work collectively for upholding the sanctity of our age old tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood.The Speaker said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has taken a unique step to make this year’s Independence Day celebration exceptional. 

For the first time, the celebration of India’s independence will involve a six-day long ‘Bharat Parv’ festival at Rajpath besides ‘Tiranga Yatras’ will be taken out across the country from 15-22 August. Apart from that, to commemorate the nation’s 70th Independence Day, the government has outlined an additional detailed 15-day long program which will be launched by Prime Minister as ’70 Saal Azadi – Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani’.‘This day is of immense importance for all Indians as it gives us an opportunity to pay homage to the great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation, the Speaker said adding that we all, irrespective of caste and colour, should follow the principles of those legendaries to make the society a better world to live in.Elaborating on the objective of the week long campaign, Kavinder Gupta said that this event would help in infusing patriotic fervor among the youth and children of the country.The people present on the occasion also expressed their views on Independence Day by putting their words on Khadi fabric.Later, all the paintings will be sent to the Ministry of Textiles.Among others, concerned officers and large number of people were present on the occasion.
