The President of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Shri Aditya V. Agarwal called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today. He was accompanied by ICC Director General Shri Rajeev Singh. Shri Agarwal gave Dr Jitendra Singh a detailed resume of the plans to widen the activities of the ICC as well as enlarge investment areas in the North-Eastern region. He said that the ICC looks forward to Dr Jitendra Singh in his capacity as DoNER Minister to support and help in carrying forward the ICC plans. Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the ICC President and Secretary General to encourage business entrepreneurs and trade leaders, particularly in fruit and tourism industry, to explore avenues in Northeast. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the “organic farming” plan has been moving forward on a very fast track in the last two years and Sikkim has already achieved the distinction of becoming the first “Organic State” of India. Referring to vast unexplored potential in the field of tourism, bamboo industry and food industry, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the connectivity constraints which hitherto came in the way of promoting such plans, have been to a great extent overcome in the last one-and-a-half year. With rapidly enlarging rail network, national highways and more frequent air flights to new destinations, he said, Northeast soon is bound to emerge as a favourite destination for cost-effective entrepreneurship and profitable Start-up ventures.
