Sandeep Kumar Nayak inspects sericulture farms in Jammu

The Principal Secretary to Government, Agriculture Production Department J&K   Sandeep Kumar Nayak today inspected sericulture Basic Seed Station and other farms here at Miransahib, Jammu.Additional Director Sericulture Development Department Jammu   M.L. Chadgal accompanied the Principal Secretary.Nayak went around the farm area spread over on 48 Kanals with 42 Kanals   under Mulberry plantation and 06 Kanals under roads and buildings. There are 18068 Mulberry plants of different improved varieties existing in the Farm which produce the good quality leaf to feed the silkworms which is in progress for production of silkworm seed for further distribution in the field.

 Nayak inspected the progress of the silkworm rearing and issued various instructions to boost the Sericulture in the province.He was apprised that the cocoon sale in the province is in progress and till date 4.30 lac kgs of crop has been sold, fetching a return of Rs 8.80 crore.He was also informed that there are 87 Mulberry nurseries in the province for the production of improved varieties of mulberry saplings while 166 mulberry blocks have been developed for utilization of leaf for chawki silkworm rearing.The Principal Secretary also visited the Regional Sericulture Research Station Central Silk Board (Govt. of India) at Miransaib and took stock of the activities at the station.
