The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leaders and workers of Mohali district today protested outside the Deputy Commissioner office and demanded that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi should reveal the names of party members who were involved in the 1984 Sikh massacre.  They also burnt effigies of Rahul Gandhi and demanded that Rahul should be produced before the CBI.A large group of YAD workers led by YAD senior vice president Jaswinder Singh Jassi, Raja Kanwarjyot Singh Mohali, general secretary, Satinder Singh Gill, general secretary, Harmanpreet Singh Prince, President YAD Mohali urban, Jaspinder Singh lalli, President Yad Mohali rural and Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna, President Student Organisation of India, gathered near the Deputy Commissioner office and shouted slogans against the Congress party and members of Gandhi family. Later, Mr. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia senior vice president Shiromani Akali Dal joined the protest. The protestors shouted anti-Congress slogans and held up placards, one of which read: “CBI should question Rahul Gandhi for Congress involvement in 1984 riots”.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the 1984 Sikh massacre, Mr. Jaswinder Singh Jassi demanded that Rahul should testify before investigating agencies and courts where the appeals regarding this Sikh genocide were being heard. He said that CBI should ask Mr. Gandhi which people he was talking about and he should be made to spell names. “A number of Congress politicians were responsible for instigating the violence against Sikhs. But very few were identified and cases pursued amid hurdles, so Rahul should expose all the culprits”, he added.Holding Congress party squarely responsible for 1984 Sikh genocide, Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna said that it was on the directions of Home Minister of India that the Delhi police stood mute witness to the killing of thousands of Sikhs in the capital of nation. He said that Congress party not only architected this genocide but also rewarded the butchers of this carnage. “Indira Gandhi’s son, Rajiv, who had succeeded her as the Prime Minister, shielded the main villains of this shameful incident. The perpetrators rose politically even after their roles in the killings were widely reported in the media. Bhagat became a cabinet minister in the Rajiv Gandhi government, which was in power during the killings and re-elected months later. Tytler became minister of civil aviation in the same government”, he added.

Describing Congress party as a dual face party, Mr. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia said that Congress party, which made a virtue of its ‘secular credential’, has never dissociated with the tainted Congress leaders facing serious charges in the anti-Sikh massacre. “Bhagat was information and broadcasting minister under Rajiv, while Dr. Manmohan Singh, a Sikh himself, had Jagdish Tytler as his overseas Affairs Minister between 2004 and 2005”. He said that Congress party may frown on such an act of remembrance but future generations of Indians must never forget that there was a time the state looked away while innocent citizens were killed in the very Capital of the Republic simply because of their religion.Prominent amongst others Parminder Singh Sohana, Sahib Singh Badali and Lucky Derabassi were also present on the occasion.
