Toyota Kirloskar Motor secures First and Second position in India Skills 2016

Toyota Kirloskar Motor won the first and second position in India Skills 2016 contest held in New Delhi. Organized by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, the event witnessed participation from 560 contestants including 88 Institutes & 8 automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Honda, Volkswagen, Tata Motors, etc.Toyota Kirloskar Motor bagged the top 2 positions under Mechatronic Skills. The two participating teams successfully cleared different stages both at zonal and regional levels to compete at the national level, where the final winners were felicitated by Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Government of India, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Mr. Jayant Krishna, Chief Executive Officer, National Skill Development Corporation.India Skills is a bi-annual event which was started in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development - Government of India, focused to promote young talent in the country under the ambitious project of our Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.  The first anniversary of India Skills was inaugurated by the Honorable President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. Many projects were launched during this event to upgrade the skill sets of the young generation with a view to create highly skilled work force for the nation. 

The India Skills 2016 finale winners qualify for selections to World Skills 2017, which is scheduled to be held at Abu Dhabi. Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman & Whole-time Director, said “Much delighted to see that our talent pool has been recognized at this prestigious platform. The award is an acknowledgement of Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s’ skill enhancement practices that not only add value to every employee’s skill set, but also aims at building a strong work force for the industry as a whole.We are committed to enhance the skill of the trainees and at Toyota, we have undertaken various long-term training initiatives by setting-up the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), Toyota Technical Education Program (TTEP), Gurukul and other skill boosting initiatives, to address the growing needs of skilled manpower of the industry.” Over the years, TKM has been representing & competing in various skill contests in India & globally. TKM focuses on developing human resources through various educational modules with a view to scale up the skills towards achieving manufacturing excellence. 

Earlier this year, Toyota launched the Tantrajna’ program, a skill development initiative aimed at increasing employment opportunities for rural and underprivileged youth in the automobile sector. The program comprised of 600 hours of classroom training by globally certified skill trainers, and one year of ‘On the Job Development (OJD) with a holistic approach - balancing focus on body, mind and attitude. Similarly, the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), contributing towards skill development offers a three year rigorous full-time training in – Automobile Assembly, Automobile Paint, Automobile Weld and Mechatronics (a combination of mechanical and industrial electronics). The above initiatives of TKM shows its commitment towards achieving the common goal of SKILL INDIA MISSION.
