Curfew, restrictions continue on 25th day in Kashmir

Authorities on Tuesday imposed curfew in two Southern districts and restrictions in parts of Anantnag, Srinagar and others on 25th consecutive day to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir.A top police official told KNS that the curfew continued in Kulgam and Pulwama while the restrictions were imposed in Anantnag town, parts of Srinagar, and other parts of districts as well.Witnesses told KNS that huge contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers have been deployed on roads to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir.Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat told KNS that the situation across South Kashmir remained peaceful throughout the day.He said that at least 15 bikes were seized by the police along with several youth after scores of youth carried out bike rally in Ashmuqam area in this afternoon.

Bhat said that scores of youth carried out bike rally in the area while police swung into action to disperse the youth and seized at least 15 bikes along with scores of youth.He said that from past two days, the vehicular movement was also witnessed from the either sides of the national highway.Meanwhile reports said that Banihal town on Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. “The decision to observe shutdown for four days was taken by Beopar mandal Banihal and Imam of central Jamia Masjids Banihal,” reports said, adding that they have also decided to follow the leaderships programme.According to KNS correspondent, clashes erupted between youth and forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after youth organized rally in this afternoon.Witnesses said that forces intercepted a protest rally started from at Madar village which was heading towards Bandipora town. “The rally was started from Arin Sumlar,” they said.“Forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who in return pelted stones on them,” he said.

Witnesses as per KNS correspondent said that clashes also erupted in Kuloosara area of Bandipora.Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir Range, Uttam Chand told KNS that the situation here remained peaceful.However, he said that minor clashes erupted between youth and forces in Warpora area of Sopore town while the overall situation across the north Kashmir remained peaceful.Meanwhile, on leaderships appeal, a women protest rally was carried out in Hazratbal and Pantha Chowk areas of Srinagar.According to KNS correspondent, scores of women while carrying Pakistani flag were chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans in Pantha Chowk area in this afternoon.The protesters after staging protest dispersed peacefully.Similar rally of women was also carried out from Kashmir University's Moulana Rumi Gate and was headed towards the revered Hazratbal Shrine, reports said.Amid chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters demanded an end to killings in Kashmir.Meanwhile, an official told KNS that the situation across Srinagar remained peaceful.The separatist leadership had appealed women to assemble in their respective localities after Asr prayers and hold special prayers for Martyrs.The protest programmes were issued in view of the civilian killings across Kashmir who were killed during the protests that erupted following the killing of Hizb commander, Burhan Wani in a ‘gunfight’ in Bumdoora village of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on July 8.
