Capt. Amarinder Singh’s latest statement urging Congress party high command to announce Chief Ministerial candidate before 2017 polls, has brought out his deep and desperate ambition to become CM of Punjab. It is not the first time that Capt. Amarinder Singh has tried to armtwist his own party, in order to fulfil his ambition to become the CM.In a recent interview given to NDTV, Capt. Singh had admitted to the fact that in case the Congress party had not appointed him President PPCC, he would have quit Congress to float his own party. The methodology adopted by him to pressurise the Congress high command into becoming the President PPCC, is too well known now. This goes to show that Capt. Singh never actually believed in the ideology of the party and his only aim in politics is to somehow cling to the top chair. A careful perusal of Capt. Singh’s political innings confirms beyond doubt, that he only believes in victory and the office of CM and has never played the role of an effective opposition leader.

This assertion holds ground that after leading the Congress to a debacle in 2007 and 2012, Capt. Singh went into wilful political oblivion and was unable to face the wrath of the current Badal government. His complete absence from the Vidhan Sabha as a legislator from Patiala 2007-2014 and his zero performance as Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha from 2014 onwards, also substantiate our allegations that Capt. Singh is a non performer, non serious and a failed leader while in the opposition. While in opposition, Capt. Singh often makes allegations that the Badal government has registered more than 50,000 cases against Congress cadres under a well planned vendetta drive, but he never rescued or protected even one Congress worker from the vitriolic onslaught of the police. He has only defended self and family members in various corruption cases, by paying hefty fees to hifi lawyers in the High Court and Supreme Court.

Therefore, keeping in view the poor political commitment and track record of Capt. Amarinder Singh in mind, AAP urges him to clarify whether all his current manouvers are aimed towards assuming the chair of CM, or is he really committed to serve Punjab in whatever capacity the electorate ordain him to? What if Capt. Amarinder Singh and his party loose the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab like the two humiliating defeats of 2007 and 2012, will he make a commitment to the people of Punjab that he will not run way from active politics and will perform his duty as an opposition leader?  Because as stated earlier, Capt. Singh is in an old habit of cooling his heels either in cozy places like Himachal Pradesh, or safe overseas havens like Dubai and London, after his party suffers defeat.People of Punjab require this clarification as Capt. Amarinder Singh has announced that 2017 is going to be his last election and his last stint as CM, but hasn’t clarified his role in the eventuality of his party loosing the
