Says ensuring regular water supply to people prime duty of Govt

Saying that ensuring regular supply of potable water to people is duty of Government, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Mr. Sham Lal Choudhary said that the department has been making every possible effort in this regard.The Minister said this while visiting Filtration Plant Nishat and Water Supply Lift Scheme Dal-Bund here today to take stock of functioning of these plants.Inspecting Filtration Plant and Lift Scheme at Nishat and Dal Bund, the Minister asked the employees to work with zeal and dedication and leave no stone unturned in ensuring the regular water supply to people.Giving brief account of functioning of plant at Nishat, the Minister was informed that the employees are attending their duties regularly and plant is functioning round-the-clock.  He was informed that 19 MGD capacity underground Filtration plant is the oldest plant of the Valley, which was constructed in 1905, providing water supply to maximum areas of Srinagar City.

Inspecting under-construction underground Water Reservoir at Nishat, the Minister was informed that the Reservoir having the capacity of 20 lakh gallons is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.67 crore on which Rs. 1.86 crore stand spent so far. The work on the project is going-on in full-swing and there is no dearth of any construction material, he was informed.The Minister also inspected Barge Pump Station Dal-Bund Phase-II and directed the concerned for early completion of another transmission line so that round-the-clock power supply is ensured for the station.Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir and other senior engineers accompanied the Minister during the tour.
